SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation

The Impact Project

Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

Greg Kopp – Extreme Weather Engineer

Greg’s work on tornado-resistant housing and climate-resilient infrastructure contributes to disaster preparedness, which includes protecting water and sanitation systems during extreme weather events. His research supports SDG 6’s focus on resilient infrastructure and water safety.

Tarun Katapally – Digital Health for Equity Researcher

Tarun’s work with the DEPtH Lab uses mobile technology to gather real-time data from citizens in remote and Indigenous communities. His research includes monitoring the health impacts of climate change, such as flooding and water contamination, and developing tools to predict and manage water-related disasters. This directly supports SDG 6’s goals around water quality, risk reduction, and equitable access to safe water.

Tarun's Story

Egide Kalisa – Environmental Health Scientist

Egide’s work in Rwanda addresses air pollution, but his broader environmental health research includes community-based monitoring of environmental hazards. His “Breathe Easy” initiative empowers schoolchildren to measure and respond to pollution, correlated with poor sanitation and water quality in low-resource settings. His grassroots, educational approach to environmental health aligns with SDG 6’s emphasis on community engagement and sustainable environmental practices.
